Unforgettable D-Day: Private Shore Excursion from Cherbourg Cruise Port

Normandy beaches U.S D-DAY sites & on a full day Shore Excursion from Cherbourg. Visit Omaha beach, Pointe du Hoc, Ste Mère Église or American Cemetery in Colleville sur Mer. Specialist tour guide of Normandy Invasion & Battle of Normandy.

Embark on a vibrant Shore Excursion from Cherbourg Port of Call to the main US D-Day sites!

Departing from Cherbourg Cruise Port, this Normandy private tour will take you to the coastal battlefield grounds. On June 6, 1944, the allied troops landed on the Normandy beaches, marking the beginning of a fierce and deadly battle that would culminate in the liberation of France a few months later.

Visit Omaha Beach

Among the allied troops, the Americans landed on two different beaches, later named Omaha and Utah. Today, our Normandy private shore excursion is taking you to Omaha beach, where the deadliest of the landings took place.

Even though bombings occurred before the landing itself, they failed to neutralize the German positions in that sector. In addition, troops and amphibian vehicles were disembarked too far from the shore, leading to an absolute failure and thousands of men being killed under German fire.

Now off to the cliffs

A little bit to the West, your private tour of Normandy will head to the Pointe du Hoc, a breathtaking cliff offering lunar landscapes and a magnificent viewpoint over the English Channel. Given the toughness of the operation, the Pointe du Hoc was given to Rangers to land upon.

The battle was rough, as the Pointe du Hoc had been built as a key point of the Atlantic Wall by the Germans – it was the highest point between Utah beach and Omaha beach and provided a great observation spot to notice any unfriendly arrivals from the sea. You can still see an artillery battery there and feel as if it was still this faithful June morning…

Normandy American Cemetery

End the tour with a stop at the Normandy American Cemetery. Located in Colleville-sur-Mer, on the site of the temporary American St. Laurent Cemetery, established by the U.S. First Army on June 8, 1944 as the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II. Here you will have some time to walk around and pay homage but also visit the Visitor Center that provides a fuller array of visitor services to put the D-Day landings in perspective as one of the greatest military achievements in history.

After the visit, return to Cherbourg and drop off at your ship. This private tour can accommodate a maximum of 8 persons per minivan. During the whole day, one of our certified English-speaking driver guide will be by your side to explain the history behind each Normandy tourist site you will visit.

The tour is fully customizable depending on your wishes. If you would like to add a visit that is missing from this description, do not hesitate to let us know!

Mont Saint Michel Village & Abbey: Private Tour from Cherbourg Cruise Port

Mont Saint Michel Village & Abbey: Private Tour from Cherbourg Cruise Port

From Cherbourg, Private Small Group Shore excursion to Mont Saint Michel. Visit abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel with your guide, stroll through the narrow streets or admire Mont Saint-Michel bay.

The Mont Saint Michel is a rocky island off the coast of Normandy, on the English Channel, and is one of the best Normandy private tours you can choose. It is located about 1 kilometer from the shore and sits in a bay that sees some of the biggest tides in Europe. A few years ago, it got linked to the mainland by a bridge that gets flooded during high tides a few times a year only.

Pick up at your Cruise Ship in Cherbourg

Today, we will come and pick you up at your Cruise ship located in Cherbourg Port of Call. Meet your English speaking driver/guide who will go over the itinerary and program of the day with you. Then, board your comfortable, air conditioned vehicle and begin your private full day tour to Mont Saint Michel, a Unesco World Heritage listed Site.

Completion of the abbey took hundreds of years

The first church was built on the mount in 709 at the request of Archangel Michael. A couple hundred years later, a small group of Benedictines settled there permanently and the church was enlarged. The first monastery was carved in the rock in the 11th century and gradually got bigger and bigger over the following centuries. In the medieval time, it quickly became an important destination for pilgrims, just like Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

The construction of the abbey as we know it nowadays was finished in the 13th and 14th centuries, and the grand chancel was replaced in the 15th century. Those hundreds of years of architectural progress have left us with a magnificent monument, now referred as the “Wonder of the Western World”.

Visit of Unesco World Heritage Site of Mont Saint Michel

During your Mont St Michel day trip, you will start by traveling from Cherbourg to the Mont Saint Michel, which you will access via a shuttle and the bridge in accordance with local requirements. While on the road, make sure to take it all in and observe the beauty of the Normandy coastline. Locally, the Mount has always been in the middle of a feud between Normandy and Brittany as to in which region the site belongs to.

Our Mont Saint Michel tour will then take you to the abbey itself, at the very top of the mount where the Benedictine Abbey is located. During this walking tour, the history of its construction will be explained in detail and while you are there, make sure to snap some pictures of the amazing views on the surrounding bay! Follow a guided tour of the abbey and then enjoy some free time for personal discovery and lunch.

The Mont Saint Michel is also a lively small town, boasting dozens of shops, restaurants, and museums

After the visit of the abbey, our guide will set you free to explore the town at your own pace and bring back some souvenirs for friends and family. Stroll through the small streets of this village that dates back to the middle ages. Your guide will also suggest some great restaurants for lunch. Of course, if you still have some questions about the history or the architecture of the Mont Saint Michel, your private guide will remain available for you.

This Mont Saint Michel private shore excursion can take in small groups of 2 to 8 persons maximum. The tour takes place in a recent and fully equipped premium car or minivan. A certified, English-speaking guide will be with you all day and ready to answer any questions you may have.

After the tour, it will be time to head back to your Cruise Ship.

Arrive in Giverny

On this Honfleur shore excursion, reach Giverny village after your driving time. The village is one of the most famous in France as it features Monet's house, one of the most famous 19th century impressionist painters of France.

Upon arrival you will be taken by your guide to the entrance where your visit of Gardens and House of Claude Monet will begin. During your visit you will certainly admire the gorgeous lily ponds - covered with water lily - or the unique Japanese bridge.

Claude Monet's House

The painter arrives in Giverny in 1883 aged 43 years old. Thanks to the selling of a number of paintings to art merchant Durand-Ruel, he is able to acquire this house where he believes he will be able to ameliorate his work on light and color.

During more than 40 years, Monet will transform, develop and enlarge the house. As you enter, you will first discover the reading room or 'little blue sitting room' followed by the artist's first studio where he worked until 1899.

You will then proceed to the first floor where the private apartments are located. These include Monet's bedroom where objects and artwork from Monet's time are exhibited. There are also reproductions of paintings made by his friends: Cézanne, Renoir, Signac or Caillebote.

Then, move on to Alice's bedroom - Claude Monet's wife - and end the tour of the upper floor with the last room which was Blanche Monet's bedroom. You will then return to the ground floor to visit the dining room and kitchen. Here, you will admire Monet's famous collection of Japanese prints.

The 'Clos Normand' Garden

Monet's love for gardens came as he visited the gardens of friends as well as with the one he took care of in his previous house of Argenteuil. In Giverny, the artist will model his garden so as to better paint it. In front of the house, he creates the Clos Normand.

He starts by removing a number of trees, to Alice's great despair, then reorganizes the flower beds playing with the colors for his paintings. The flower garden is composed of daffodils, tulips, narcissus, iris, oriental poppies, peonies while the central path is lined with nasturtiums, fragrant roses, cherry and Japanese apricot trees.

The Water Garden

By diverting a small river, the impressionist painter Claude Monet completely created this water garden. He will contemplate nature for hours especially fond of the reflections of the sky that occur on the water. Deeply inspired by 'Japonism' - influence of Japanese art on French Artists and writers - he creates a unique world. A Japanese bridge is built and oriental plants are introduced such as maple trees, Japanese peonies, white lilies, bamboos and Ginkgos Biloba.

In 1897, Monet begins to paint the "Nymphéas" series inspired by the water lilies pond, achieving one of his most famous artwork reaching the limit of abstraction (Water Lily). Today, ten gardeners take care of Giverny gardens all year round.

Please note that we do not include any tickets on the day of the tour. You must purchase your entrance tickets during the booking process as there are many different options of visit available. Depending on the tickets that you will have bought, your tour will cover different sites and entrances.

Embark on a vibrant Private Shore Excursion from Rouen Port of Call to the famous Gardens of Giverny!

Departing from Rouen Cruise Port, this Normandy shore excursion will take you to the breathtaking village of Giverny where the house and Gardens of famous painter Claude Monet are located.

Pick up at your ship in Rouen Cruise Terminal

First we will come and pick you up at your Cruise Ship in Rouen Port. Meet your guide who will be waiting for you outside the terminal with a sign bearing lead passenger name. Your driver guide will also go over the itinerary and program of this half day trip with you. Then, you will be taken to your A/C minivan and it will be time to begin your drive to Monet House and Gardens.

Reach the village of Giverny

Your drive to the village of Giverny from Rouen port of call is about 1.5 hours. The village is one of the most famous in France as it features Monet’s house, one of the most famous 19th century impressionist painters of France. Upon arrival you will be taken by your tour guide to the entrance where your visit to the beautiful Gardens and House of Claude Monet will begin. Tickets are available for purchase during the booking process which will enable you to skip the line.

Visit Monet’s House & Gardens

Even though the term ‘impressionism’ already existed, one of Monet’s paintings – impression, sunrise – perfectly summarized the style and start of impressionist art and this painting movement. Upon arrival you will be taken by your guide to the entrance where your visit to the Gardens and House of Claude Monet will begin. There are several things to see on site:

Claude Monet’s House:

The painter arrived in Giverny in 1883 aged 43 years old. Thanks to the selling of a number of paintings to art merchant Durand-Ruel, he is able to acquire this house where he believes he will be able to ameliorate his work on light and color. During more than 40 years, Monet will transform, develop and enlarge the house.

As you enter, you will first discover the reading room or ‘little blue sitting room’ followed by the artist’s first studio where he worked until 1899. You will then proceed to the first floor where the private apartments are located. These include Monet’s bedroom where objects and artwork from Monet’s time are exhibited. There are also reproductions of paintings made by his friends: Cézanne, Renoir, Signac or Caillebotte.

Then, move on to Alice’s bedroom – Claude Monet’s wife – and end the tour of the upper floor with the last room which was Blanche Monet’s bedroom. You will then return to the ground floor to visit the dining room and kitchen. Here, you will admire Monet’s famous collection of Japanese prints.

The ‘Clos Normand’ Garden:

Monet’s love for gardens came as he visited the gardens of friends as well as with the one he took care of in his previous house of Argenteuil. In Giverny, the artist will model his garden so as to better paint it. In front of the house, he creates the Clos Normand.

He starts by removing a number of trees, to Alice’s great despair, then reorganizes the flower beds playing with the colors for his paintings. The flower garden is composed of daffodils, tulips, narcissus, iris, oriental poppies, peonies while the central path is lined with nasturtiums, fragrant roses, cherry and Japanese apricot trees.

The water garden:

By diverting a small river, Monet completely created this water garden. He will contemplate nature for hours especially fond of the reflections of the sky that occur on the water. Deeply inspired by ‘Japonism’ – influence of Japanese art on French Artists and writers – he creates a unique world. A Japanese bridge is built and oriental plants are introduced such as maple trees, Japanese peonies, white lilies, bamboo and Ginkgos Biloba.

In 1897, Monet began to paint the “Nymphéas” series inspired by the water lilies pond, achieving one of his most famous artwork reaching the limit of abstraction. Today, ten gardeners take care of Giverny gardens all year round.

After the visit your half day tour will head back to Rouen Cruise Port and we will drop you off at your ship. This private tour can accommodate a maximum of 8 persons per minivan.

Pick up at your Cruise Ship in Bordeaux

Today, we will come and pick you up directly at your Cruise ship in Bordeaux. Meet your English-speaking tour guide who will go over the itinerary and program of this private walking tour of Bordeaux with you. Then begin to make your way towards the historical city center of Bordeaux.

The Golden Triangle

Under the name of Golden Triangle lies a district of Bordeaux that englobes Cours Georges-Clemenceau, Cours de l'Intendance and the Allées de Tourny. These three very large streets form a Triangle of which each tip ends with a square: Gambetta, Comedie and Tourny. Historically, this is where all the most luxurious shops and financial institutions were located. In the 18th century, the wealthiest persons of Bordeaux started building Private Mansions, vaste and luxurious city houses, built for a single family and its servants.

Place de la Comédie

This impressive square is located between the Grand Theater of Bordeaux and the houses that face it to the west. The impressive portico composed of 12 Corinthian columns of the Grand Theater, designed by architect Victor Louis, dominate the whole composition of the square. The Theatre was inaugurated in 1780 and originally the ground sloped up so that carriages could drive inside the colonnade. In 1899 the building is classified as a Historical Monument. Today, the Theater is home to the National Opera of Bordeaux.

The Grand Theatre

The inauguration of the Grand Theatre of Bordeaux took place on April 7, 1780. It took Victor Louis more than 7 years to achieve the construction commissioned by the Governor of Guyenne, Louis Armand du Plessis, Duke of Richelieu. Built in a Neoclassical style, the Grand Theatre impresses with its main façade composed of a portico of 12 Corinthian columns above which stand 12 statues - nine muses and 3 goddesses of Classical Mythology.

Place de la Bourse

The Royal Square, today Place de la Bourse, is considered to be the most elegant façade located on the quays of Bordeaux. Initially, the architectural program completed the installation of a statue of Louis XV that was inaugurated on the 19th of August 1743. Construction of the square took more than 25 years and the hard work of two 'Intendants' (Civil Officers) and three architects. The architectural style is directly modeled on the works of Mansart for Versailles. Eventually, the statue of Louis XV was taken off its basement in 1792 and replaced by the fountain of the Three Graces.

The Rohan Palace

The Palace was built between 1171 and 1784 by architect Bonfin under the patronage of Ferdinand Maximilien Mériadec de Rohan. The Rohan Palace, after being the siege of the Archbishop of the revolutionary court and an imperial Palace, is today the Town Hall of Bordeaux since 1835. Inside, behind its Louis XVI style facade, is one of the most beautiful staircases of France a masterpiece of stereotomy. The Rohan Palace faces the Saint Andrew Cathedral and Pey Berland tower.

If you are interested in other visits of Bordeaux, don't hesitate to browse our other walking tours that begin with Place des Quinconces and include a visit of the quartier des Chartrons district linked to the wine growing history of Bordeaux and that we mention on our wine tours.

Both the wine growing regions of Margaux and Haut Medoc produce wonderfully perfumed french wines. Margaux wines have a distinctive fragrant taste, attributed to the high gravel content of the soil in these vineyards. The soil’s excellent drainage means the plants need to root down further to find moisture, making them particularly strong, and bringing up the flavors of the deeper earth.

The Haut Medoc appellation is vast, with almost 400 different wine producers operating there, the different wineries produce wine that have a wide variety of textures and flavors. If time permits, your guide will try and organise a stop at Chateau Margaux for photo opportunities.

With Ophorus, rest assured that your Medoc vineyard tour will be everything you imagined. All our drivers are fully accredited guides, meaning you’ll get double the expertise on this great Medoc tour. Every one of our expert guides holds at least the WSET level 2 certification in wines and spirits, and they take great pride in their region and craft.

You’ll learn how to judge a wine with all the senses, using your eyes, nose, tongue, and memory. These licensed guides are not only wine connoisseurs, they’re also authorities on the local area, ready to share a wealth of information about the stunning Bordeaux region.

World renowned wines & wondrous ocean views

As well as producing some of the world’s most exquisite wines, the Médoc region also boasts over 60 miles of sandy beaches and is dotted with stunning castles. The Castle Route, running from the vibrant city of Bordeaux to the tip of the Médoc peninsula, is packed with breathtaking vistas and secluded fairytale classified growth Châteaux.

Saint emilion wines that are mainly composed of Merlot grapes, the Medoc wines are known for their high quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon in the final blending. The most famous region includes Margaux, Saint Julien, Pauillac and Saint Estephe.

Gentle hills, sand dunes, deep lagoons, and sweeping Atlantic coastal views highlight a trip to another part of the Médoc region. The best way to see different things in the Medoc is to program a full day private tour that we will set up for you and that will allow you to experience the diverse flavors of the region in expert hands.

Flanking the town of Pauillac, some of France’s most acclaimed vineyards cover the eastern side of the Médoc peninsula. This area is home to many fabulous castles, including Château Margaux, Château Latour and Château Mouton Rothschild. Another highlight of the region is the Gironde estuary. Formed from the convergence of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, it is home to a monument that is known as the ‘Versailles’ of lighthouses.

If you hesitate upon your Bordeaux Shore Excursion destination, we also strongly suggest the visit of the St Emilion wine region. The medieval village of Saint Emilion is a real treat and we organise walking tours in the village that include the underground monuments; the red wines produced here are also fantastic with merlot being the main grape variety used in the blend. This is the heart of Bordeaux's famous wine region, where many vineyards carry the Saint Emilion AOC designation.

The wines produced here are a blend of Merlot grapes with deep, bold flavors, along with other local grape varieties, especially Cabernet Franc and, to a lesser degree, Cabernet Sauvignon.

Choose one of these options best adapted to your wishes. All options will be available to purchase during the booking process

To make this exclusive Saint Emilion wine tour full day trip from Bordeaux unique, we have made it possible for you to choose from a selection of options so that the tour is adapted to your priorities. During the booking process, you will be prompted to choose one of the options below. Just select the one that you prefer and the tour will be automatically adapted to your preferences.

Option 1 - Visit & Wine tasting in a Grand Cru Classé Chateau and a private visit of the underground monuments of Saint Emilion

Visit a Grand Cru Winery:

This option is perfect for those of you who wish to combine wine & heritage. In the morning, upon arrival in St Emilion, we will take you to one of our carefully selected partner wineries known for the quality of the wines they produce. Your Ophorus guide will be with you during the visit so don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Whether you have questions about history, technique, flavors, aromas, food & wine pairings don't hesitate to ask them anything that relates to wine to make this full day a very special one. Visit classified Growth Chateau, technical installations and cellars and participate in a commented tasting of the Chateau wines.

Private visit of the Underground Monuments:

Probably the highlight of Saint Emilion village, is the underground Monolithic Church. The foundation of the church is built directly into the limestone of the rocky site, a rare construction feat.

From the history of the founding monk of the village, to the digging of the surprising monolithic church, the visit will enable you to discover 4 monuments : the hermitage of Émilion, the Trinity Chapel and its medieval paintings, the catacombs as well as the underground church. Our certified licensed guides have the authorization to conduct private guided tours in this monument so just follow your guide and learn about the history and heritage of Saint Emilion.

Option 2 - Visit & Wine tasting in 2 Grand Cru Chateau of Saint Emilion

Visit of 2 Grands Crus wineries:

This option is perfect for those that want to experience a more in depth wine tour. We will take you to two very different wineries so that you can understand how techniques and production can vary from one winery to another.

On this type of wine tour in Saint Emilion we combine the visit to a very modern winery with that of a more traditional, family owned one. By doing so, it will be possible for you to better comprehend the technical transformations that have taken place over the years and what are the principal differences between traditional and modern winemaking and the repercussions this has on the structure, characteristics and aromas of the wines produced.

Walking tour in the village:

This option also includes a walking tour with your guide in the village of Saint Emilion. Discover the most significant landmarks of the village and retrace the history of a famous Monk. Stroll through the quaint, cobbled stone streets of this medieval town.

Listen as your tour guide recounts local history, from the days of the 8th century hermit Emilion, to the 19th century mining galleries, which still lie beneath the village. It is no coincidence that Saint Emilion has been awarded the Unesco World Heritage status in 1999. After the walk, enjoy some free time to explore on your own in the village.

Option 3 - Combine Saint Emilion with Pomerol and Visit 3 Wineries

This option is a perfect choice for both novice and wine connoisseurs alike who want to experience 2 very different appellations of the right bank. By choosing this option, you will participate in 2 visits and wine tastings in the Saint Emilion appellation (as in option 2) to which we will add 1 visit & wine tasting in the Pomerol appellation.

Pomerol is located right next to the Saint Emilion appellation. The south and west part of the appellation have sandier soils compared to the slightly heavier soils in the east, which include a certain proportion of clay. It is in this eastern section, on the marginally higher land where Pomerol meets Saint-Émilion, that the best wines are produced.

Three of the most highly regarded Pomerol producers – Pétrus, Lafleur and Le Pin – are located here. Merlot is the dominant grape in Pomerol and plays a large part in making the wines rich, smooth and approachable at an early age, while also being capable of extended aging. Cabernet Franc is also often present, adding structure and an element of savory spice. These characteristics mean Pomerol wines are much sought after on the international market.

The combination of two different appellations will allow you to dig deeper into the notion of 'terroir' which is the complete natural environment in which a particular wine is produced, including factors such as the soil, topography, and climate. This is where the expertise of our guides will show all its importance as you benefit from their knowledge to better comprehend this essential french notion when it comes to wines.

The legend of Emilian

The first indications of human settlements in the area date back to the Roman Empire, but the story of Saint Emilion starts in the eighth century AD. At that time, a monk from Brittany, fleeing persecution in his hometown of Vannes sought refuge in one of the natural caves near the settlement of Ascum Bas.

Although he lived the simple and secluded life of a hermit, Saint Emilion allegedly performed several miracles from his Aquitaine hideaway. Soon, his renown spread far beyond the town and region, bringing pilgrims and disciples from far afield to visit him. The small settlement grew fast as it became a religious center.

After Saint Emilion died, his followers made sure he would be remembered by giving the town of Ascum Bas the new name of Saint Emilion.Much later, monks developed more intensive and widespread vineyards. This is when the reputation for Saint Emilion wines started building towards what it is today.

The rich Merlot-based blends of these fertile plains have given local wines a great appeal, and several wines produced in chateaux near Saint Emilion have been given the highest possible awards under the French appellation wine rating system.

Taste delicious wines

Medoc wines produce wonderfully perfumed yet very intense french wines.

Saint Julien wines are known to be tannic, powerful and are usually coined as being quite masculine types of wines while the wines produced in Pauillac are generally rich, full bodied and stern.

Unlike saint emilion or graves region wines that are mainly composed of Merlot grapes, the Medoc wines are known for their high quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon in the final blending. The most famous region includes Margaux, Saint Julien, Pauillac or St Estephe.

More information on Cognac Brandy

The region authorized to produce cognac is divided into six zones, including five crus. The six zones are Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, Fins Bois, Bon Bois, and Bois Ordinaire. A blend of Grande and Petite Champagne Cognacs, with at least half coming from Grande Champagne, is known as Fine Champagne.

The wine is very dry, acidic, and thin, “virtually undrinkable”, but excellent for distillation and aging. It may be made only from a strict list of grape varieties, if it is to carry the name of one of the crus then it must be at least 90% Ugni Blanc (known in Italy as Trebbiano), Folle Blanche and Colombard, although 10% of the grapes used can be Folignan, Jurançon blanc, Meslier St-François (also called Blanc Ramé), Sélect, Monfils or Sémillon.

Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux wines

Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation is located at the north of Bordeaux vineyard, on the right bank of the Gironde estuary. 450 winemakers work on 6000 hectares of limestone clay, gravelly clay and sandy clay soils. La Rochelle Cruise Excursion to Green Venice & Wine Tasting

Small Group Private Shore Excursion from La Rochelle to visit the Mysterious Poitevin Marais followed by a wine tasting session in a local, carefully selected winery. Take part in an unusual boat ride followed by a tasting of local wines.

Embark on a vibrant Shore Excursion from La Rochelle Port of Call and visit the mysterious Poitevin Marsh on board a flat bottomed boat!

Departing from La Rochelle Cruise Port, this Atlantic Coast half day private shore excursion will take you to the fascinating Natural Park of the 'Marais Poitevin' located in the Charente Maritime district.

Pick up at your Cruise Ship in La Rochelle

First, we will come and pick you up at your ship in La Rochelle Cruise Port. Meet your English speaking driver guide who will go over the itinerary and program of the day with you. Then, board your air conditioned vehicle and depart for the Marais Poitevin located in the Charente region.

Reach the Marais Poitevin & embark on a relaxing boat trip

The second largest wet marsh zone of France is on your program today. The Poitou Charente Marsh land, also known as the Green Venice (Venise Verte), was born by the forces of nature and is the combination of land and water associated to the hard work of man. The Dutch were the ones who drained most of the area in the 17th century, constructing rigoles that are tiny canals banked with poplars. The marsh is irrigated thanks to the Sèvre Niortaise, Vendée as well as smaller rivers.

Arrive in Coulon, a small traditional village of the Pays de la Loire, where you will board a flat bottomed boat to visit this unique area of France. Listen to the tales & legends of the area distilled by your guide who uses a "pigouille" (punt) to maneuver the embarkation.

As you slowly ride through an endless maze of green pools and streams, admire the wild irises, ruined churches, hidden marshes and golden orioles. A highlight of the tour will certainly be when your captain sets the water on fire! After the boat ride, enjoy some free time in the village of Coulon for a bit of shopping or why not visit the 'maison du marais poitevin' to get more information on the area?

Take part in a Wine Tasting Session in a local Winery

The Romans where the first to cultivate vines in this area of France. From the winery, one has a fantastic view on the Poitou Marsh that used to be covered by the sea. The family has been wine makers since the 1890's and today it is the 4th generation that tends to the vineyard.

The vines are planted on clay and limestone soils and the typical temperate oceanic climate are perfect for making a high quality wine. The wines produced here include reds that are generous, elegant and fruity.

The whites resemble the Loire Valley wines with freshness and fruit. All the wines produced at the property are blended with different grape varieties. We will stay around 1 hour for a tasting session of the different wines produced.

After the wine tasting session, it will be time to return to your Cruise ship in La Rochelle and it will be the end of our services.

The square also features the Monument to the Girondins as well as huge statues of Montesquieu and Montaigne.

Defined by three Boulevards, including high-end Cours de l’Intendance, the heart of Bordeaux is without a doubt Place de la Comédie. This masterpiece of 18th-century architecture was designed by Victor Louis who also designed Comédie Française in Paris.

Bordeaux River Front & famous Landmarks

Taste delicious wines

Medoc wines produce wonderfully perfumed yet very intense french wines.

Saint Julien wines are known to be tannic, powerful and are usually coined as being quite masculine types of wines while the wines produced in Pauillac are generally rich, full bodied and stern.

Lunch (at own expense)

During the course of the day, you will stop in a local restaurant where you can taste some of the local delicacies. Lunch will be at own expense but we will be happy to make pre-booking arrangements for you and your group. After the second visit & wine tasting of the day, we will return to Pauillac and drop you off at your ship.

Saint-Malo Guided Walking Tour from Cruise Port Private

Enjoy a fun & informative Private Guided walking Tour of Saint Malo as a shore excursion. Pick up by your guide directly at your boat and depart for a 2-hour walking tour of Saint-Malo. Visit the major highlights of the city.

Discover Saint Malo with a certified guide

Participate in a commented 2 hour guided tour of Saint Malo with your own personal English speaking certified guide. This Saint Malo Shore Excursion is for small groups only. The group size is limited to a maximum of 10 persons.

Discover the charming port town of Saint Malo with its old town, 12th century remparts, cobbled streets and granite buildings. The major attractions include Saint Malo Castle, the National Fort, as well as the Aquarium that houses more than 500 species.

Saint Malo is a port town located in Brittany, France, on the coast of the English Channel and is coined the Pearl of the Emerald Coast. The town curves out to sea on a natural harbour, on the Rance Estuary, and the Old Town is completely surrounded by massive remparts. The name of the town originates from the name of a Welsh monk Maclovius or Maclou in French.

The Golden Age of Saint Malo

The most significant period of history for the town is the 16th & 17th centuries. Because of its strategic position as the last main Channel port for the merchant ships heading south, the port rapidly became home to Privateers (Corsaires or Pirates) that would pillage and plunder English and Dutch ships. This made the town quite rich and it allowed ship owners to build large mansions called malouinières that are part of the architectural highlights of the town.

One of the best known French Privateers was René Dugyay-Trouin born in Saint Malo in 1673. Captain at 18, he took command of a 40-gunner at the tender age of 21. He captured more than 300 merchant ships and 16 warships. Louis XV made him lieutenant-general of the naval armies.

The other most well known figure of Privateering is Robert Surcouf. waged war against English commerce. His most dastardly feat was the capture of the Kent, a powerful 1200 ton ship of the East India Company.

This act of piracy earned him the title of King of the Corsairs, making him one of the richest and most powerful men in Saint-Malo. Both men have their statues in Saint Malo.

Jacques Cartier, a famous explorer

Yet the most well known person born in Saint Malo is without a doubt Jacques Cartier. Born in Saint Malo in 1491 he was the first European to describe and map the Gulf of Saint Laurent River which he named the Country of Canadas. Cartier's professional abilities can be easily ascertained.

Considering that Cartier made three voyages of exploration in dangerous and hitherto unknown waters without losing a ship, and that he entered and departed some 50 undiscovered harbours without serious mishap, he may be considered one of the most conscientious explorers of the period.

Private Guided walking tour of Saint Malo

Today, your English speaking guide will come and pick you up at your Cruise Port in Saint Malo. Meet your tour guide who will go over the itinerary and program of this private tour with you. Then, leave the port and begin to make your way to Saint Malo's historic city center. The most emblematic 'Privateer' Town of France is ready for a visit.

Surrounded by remparts made of granite, enter the walled city through the gate of Saint Vincent. Built in the beginning of the 12th century, they remained intact during the bombings of the second world war. Then, from one neighborhood to another, admire the imposing houses of the rich shipowners of beyond.

As your tour continues, pass the medieval castle that today houses the History Museum of the town. Next to the castle, the Quic-en-Groigne tower was built under the reign of Anne de Bretagne. Other interesting sites include the old historic city center of St Malo as well as the national Fort that protected the town and was built under the orders of Military engineer Vauban in 1689. This half day trip will end with some free time for personal discovery in the town.

From Saint-Malo Port to Mont Saint Michel village & Abbey shore excursion private

A full day shore excursion to one of France's most Iconic Monuments. Enjoy a small group private shore excursion from Saint Malo Cruise Port to Mont Saint Michel. Follow your guide and visit the village and Mt Saint Michel Abbey.

Come with us on a Normandy private Shore Excursion from Saint Malo and take a trip to one of France’s most iconic monuments!

The Mont Saint Michel is an island off the coast of Normandy, in the English Channel, and is one of the best Normandy private tours you can choose. It is located about 1 kilometer from the shore and sits in a bay that sees some of the biggest tides in Europe. A few years ago, it was linked to the mainland by a bridge that gets flooded during high tides a few times a year.

The first church was built on the mount in 709 at the request of Archangel Michael. A couple hundred years later, a small group of Benedictines settled there permanently and the church was enlarged. The first monastery was carved in the rock in the 11th century and gradually got bigger and bigger over the following centuries. In medieval times, it quickly became an important destination for pilgrims, just like Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

Completion of the abbey took hundreds of years

The construction of the abbey as we know it nowadays was finished in the 13th and 14th centuries, and the grand chancel was replaced in the 15th century. Those hundreds of years of architectural prowess have left us with a magnificent monument, now referred to as the “Wonder of the Western World”.

It is also a UNESCO world heritage site. During your Mont Saint Michel day trip, you will start by traveling from Saint Malo Cruise Port to the Mont Saint Michel, which you will access via a shuttle and the bridge in accordance with local requirements. While on the road, make sure to take it all in and observe the beauty of the Normandy coastline. Your group will be transported in a private vehicle adapted to the number of people present.

Once we reach Mont Saint Michel, you will have sufficient time to tour on your own. You can reach the abbey itself, at the very top of the mount, as you walk along the narrow streets. Please note that this is a challenging climb as it is done on cobble street stones.

If you do decide to visit the abbey, then follow your tour guide and the history of its construction will be explained in detail and while you are there, make sure to snap some pictures of the amazing views on the surrounding bay! Entrance fees to the Abbey can be purchased during the booking process.

The Mont Saint Michel is also a lively small town, boasting dozens of shops, restaurants and museums

Another option is to explore the village at your own pace and bring back some souvenirs for friends and family. Your guide will suggest some great restaurants for lunch. Of course, if you still have some questions about the history or the architecture of the Mont Saint Michel, your private guide will remain available for you.

This Mont Saint Michel private tour can take in small groups of 2 to 7 persons maximum. The tour takes place in a fully equipped A/C minivan. An English-speaking driver/guide will be with you all day and ready to answer any questions you may have.

After the tour, it will be time to make our way back to St Malo.

Visit the Walled Town of Carcassonne – La Cité

A bit of History

The oldest traces of mankind - 6th century B.P - were found on the promontory where the now medieval Cité lies. Around 300 B.P, the Volques Tectosages brought the Iberians of Languedoc to submission.

In 122 B.P, the Romans conquered the Provence and the Languedoc regions of France. They fortified the oppidum which took the name of Carcaso and occupied our region until the middle of the 5th century. The Visigoths then became the masters of Spain and the Languedoc. The Cité remained in their hands from 460 to 725 A.D. In the spring of 725, the Saracens took the Cité.

They were driven away in 759 by Pépin le Bref, king of the Franks. After the death of Charlemagne, the dismembering of the Empire gave birth to the feudal system. It was under the dynasty of the Trencavels, from 1082 to 1209, that the town began to gain tremendous influence.

During this prosperous period, Catharism grew rapidly. Raymond Roger Trencavel, vicomte of Carcassonne (1194-1209) both tolerated and protected the heretics on his own lands. He suffered the first impact of the crusade preached by Pope Innocent III and on August 15th, 1209, after a two-week siege, it was all over. The Cité and the lands of Trencavel were first handed to the military commander of the crusade, Simon de Montfort, then to the King of France in 1224.

As the Cité made its entry into the Royal Estate, its destiny took a new turn. Under the successive reigns of Louis IX, Philippe Le Hardi and Philippe Le Bel, it grew its modern-day shape. A new borough was born on the left bank in 1262: La Bastide Saint-Louis. Set on fire by the Black Prince in 1355, it was immediately rebuilt. While this new town was bustling with activity, the Cité consolidated its role as a royal fortress.

But due to the use of new war techniques (gunpowder, cannon) and above all to the recession of the Franco-Spanish border in 1659 after the Peace of the Pyrénées, it was gradually abandoned. In the 18th century, the Cité was little more than a slum, a poverty-stricken, outlying area in a town made wealthy by the wine trade and the cloth manufacturing industry.

Only through the joint efforts of Jean-Pierre Cros-Mayrevieille, a historian and a citizen of Carcassonne, of Mérimée and the famous architect Viollet-le-Duc was it saved from demolition. Thousands of people today are able to see and admire the most accomplished fortified town in Europe.

Visit of Carcassonne with your licensed tour guide

Reach the cité de Carcassonne that looks like some fairy-tale medieval city. Bathed in late-afternoon sunshine and highlighted by dark clouds, La Cité, as the old walled city is known, is truly breathtaking. The fortress is the largest remaining fortified city in Europe. Follow your guide as you listen to the local stories and legends and be amazed by its old stones and its history.

Follow the ramparts with your guide, to get a feel of the medieval beauty of the biggest fortified city then stroll through the narrow streets lined with shops. Reach the Cathedral of Carcassonne. The visit of the Saint Nazaire Basilica with its outstanding stained-glass windows that date back to the middle ages is a must.

Free time for lunch

After your guided walking tour of Carcassonne, enjoy some free time for personal discovery and lunch (at own expense). Visit the Charming small village of Collioure

The drive from Port Vendres to Collioure is just over 10 minutes but the drive is stunning through the Languedoc landscape and along the Côte Vermeille. This area is without a doubt one of the most preserved landscapes of the south of France. Upon arrival in Collioure, follow your guide as you walk the narrow streets of this small fishing village.

A fortified church so close to the sea that it seems to float, an old royal castle, colorful boats that seem ready to set out to catch the prized anchovies (a local specialty), this is enchanting Collioure. No wonder artists such as Picasso, Braque, Dufy, Chagall, Matisse and Derain came here as the village, birthplace of the Fauvism painting movement, boasts more than 300 days of sunshine per year.

Languedoc wine tour

After the visit of the village and some free time, participate in a wine tasting session of local wines. The wines produced in Collioure include reds, rosés and a few white wines. The main grape varieties that are used here include Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Carignan which are similar to the grapes used in Languedoc wines.

Wine making in the area began with the Greeks around the 6th century BP. For a long time under Spanish rule, the wines produced here have often been described as being more like Spanish wines than French.

The red wines usually have softer tannins and are full bodied with spicy aromas. The rosés produced here have a nice raspberry color to them and can be very aromatic.

Drive to the Châteauneuf du Pape wine region where you will have several wine tasting sessions in carefully selected Châteauneuf du Pape wineries.

Châteauneuf du Pape Wine tour

The Châteauneuf du Pape Appellation was one of 6 to be labeled as the first AOC wines of France in 1936. The vineyards planted by the Romans were extended and developed by the Pope's residing in Avignon popes during the 14th century.

In 1314, Clement V, the first Avignon Pope discovered the special soil of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. His successor, John XXII supports him and it was during his reign that the vineyard really took off and spread fame beyond the borders of “The Comtat”.

The former bishop of Avignon, Jacques Duèse was elected as Pope John XII and succeeded Clement V in 1316. He regularly drank the wines from the vineyards ‘in the north’ and did much to improve viticulture practices there.

The Pope sought a place sufficiently far from the city to discourage courtiers, sycophants, and scroungers, yet close enough so that a courier could go there and back to Avignon on the same day. The ideal spot was found on a hillock overlooking the Rhône Valley about halfway between Avignon and Orange – Châteauneuf – and this area was placed directly under his authority.

As you reach this famous wine producing region, discover the village and its ancient castle that was the summer residence of the Pope's during their stay in the area. Here, you will enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view on the valley.

Morning Wine tasting session in a local Winery

The Châteauneuf du Pape wines are well known for their full bodied red wines made predominantly with different grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre that are typical grapes that can be found in the southern vineyards of France. There are also some white Châteauneuf du Pape wines that are intensely perfumed. The grape varieties used for the white wines include Grenache Blanc, Rousannes, Clairette and Bourboulenc many of which are rustic french varietals.

Upon arrival in the village, it will be time to taste some of the local wines in a local winery. Then, you will have some free time to roam around and enjoy a wine tour of Chateauneuf du Pape wines in the old 14th century pope cellars. Depending on your wishes, it will be possible to taste more wines in the local wineries that your guide can point to.

Lunch in a local restaurant (at own expense)

After your morning Châteauneuf du Pape wine tour, it will be time for lunch. We can pre-book a restaurant for you and your party in a local restaurant. Why not enjoy the local food and pair it with more Chateau neuf du Pape red or white wines.

Afternoon wine tasting sessions in 2 local Wineries

After lunch, experience 2 other Châteauneuf du Pape winery tours. Listen about the history of these unique domains, visit the installations and participate commented tastings of the wines of the estates. Take the opportunity to ask about the wine making process, the different blendings that are possible and most of all learn about the large range of grape varieties that can be used to make this exceptional wines.

While most nearby appellations were originally cultivated by Greek outposts, Cassis is of Ligurian origins. The village of Cassis is Blessed by 3,000 hours of annual sunshine. The cool maritime winds make it truly a spot set aside for gorgeous wines.

Cassis is the only region in Provence to produce a majority of white wine, regulated to contain at least 80% of the Marsanne grape variety. This varietal adds beautiful aromatics and finesse, an elegant profile for the refreshing, high-quality white wines of Cassis.

Clairette is also a common component, adding fresh acidity to balance the body of Marsanne. A touch of red wines and a strong showing of rosé wines are also cultivated in Cassis – blends of Cinsault, Grenache and Mourvèdre.

They often exhibit notes of red berries, citrus, and floral undertones, making them perfect for warm weather and light cuisine.

The region's terroir, which includes a combination of rocky soils, maritime influences, and abundant sunshine, contributes to the distinctive character of Côtes de Provence wines. Drive to the Alpilles mountain region that is famous for its vineyards and olive trees. Reach the medieval village of les Baux-de-Provence built on a rocky spur and from where you will have a breathtaking view of the surrounding Provence Countryside.

Enjoy some free time to explore the narrow streets, galleries and the remains of a 10th century fortress. Visit the carrières de lumières, a unique light and sound show in Europe located in an ancient limestone quarry (entrance fees not included) where the natural 14 meter high limestone walls act like giant screens.

Visit the charming small town of Arles

This is one of the most peculiar towns of France. It possesses some of the most fascinating architectural highlights including Roman monuments and Medieval buildings and churches. The town is also influenced by several cultures because of its location at the crossroads of Camargue & Provence. A number of monuments in Arles are classified as Unesco World Heritage Sites.

For many years it has attracted Parisians, intellectuals and of course artists of which Vincent Van Gogh is the most famous. If you wish, it is possible to make a stop at the Monastery Saint Paul de Mausole where Van Gogh resided for just over a year.

This lunatic asylum is where the artist voluntarily admitted himself after his breakdown in December 1888 that resulted in the self-mutilation of his left ear. It is during his stay here that he will achieve one of his most famous paintings La Nuit étoilée - The Starry Night. It is also here that the Artist will paint an enclosed field that fascinated him.

Upon arrival, enjoy a walking tour of the city of Arles. Explore the Roman arena, the Arles Amphitheatre, Van Gogh cafe, hospital and garden, the Church of St Trophime church and city hall square. Arles was the Roman capital of Provence during the reign of Julius Caesar and also the Christian capital of the emperor Constantine. The city houses Christian, medieval and Roman sites and is considered as one of the most interesting locations to visit in Provence.

After the visit of Arles, we will return to Marseille Port of Call and that will be the end of our services.

Medieval Villages & Luberon Beauty: Private Shore Excursion

Marseille small group private shore excursion to a stunning region of Provence: The Luberon. Visit beautiful villages including Gordes, Roussillon or Lourmarin. Admire the scenery and taste local Provence rosé wines on this private tour.

Embark on a vibrant Shore Excursion from Marseille Cruise Terminal to visit the most beautiful villages of the Luberon. Let our Expert local guides introduce you to one of the most stunning regions of Provence.

Pick up at your Cruise Ship in Marseille

Today we will come and pick you up at your Cruise Ship in Marseille Port of Call. Meet your English speaking driver/guide who will go over the itinerary and program of this private shore excursion. Then, board your air conditioned vehicle and begin to make your way to the Luberon villages of Provence.

There are a number of villages that can be visited on this full day trip from Marseille. Below is our selection of Villages du Luberon that are worth a stop. It will be your driver/guide on the day of your tour that will go over this selection with you.

Depending on your wishes, your Expert guide will adapt the itinerary to your wishes. You will also have some free time in most villages so that you may explore on your own and lunch will be taken at your own expense in one of the villages on the way.

Our selection of Luberon Villages:

Gordes

Gordes is without a doubt the most famous of all Luberon villages. The downside to this is the high number of visitors that come to visit the village so we advise that if you do choose to visit this village, you should go there immediately so as to arrive early.

Classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France and facing the Luberon mountain range, the village is composed of small paved streets, known as calades, where it feels so nice to get lost in. To mostly appreciate this unique village, magic operates in spring and autumn as summer is very crowded by the number of visitors.

Lourmarin

The village of Lourmarin is quite unique. As you stroll the winding streets, the architecture in the village reveals its many riches: from the Renaissance to the Baroque period, from Classicism to the 19th century, the houses in Lourmarin highlight the incomparable know-how of those builders often little known to the general public.

Located in a gorgeous setting that is surrounded by olive and almond trees, the village has attracted numerous artists and writers such Henri Bosco and Albert Camus. Again, enjoy some time in the village where options include the visit of its ancient castle. The village was the source of inspiration for Peter Mayle’s “A year in Provence”.

Roussillon

The village of Roussillon is a typical hilltop village located just above a rock formation called the “Provencal Colorado“. Here, you will have some time for personal discovery that will allow you to stroll down the village or walk along the “ochre cliffs path", a 30 minute walk.

Bonnieux

The architecture of Bonnieux, papal town for about 500 years, testifies to the prestige of its inhabitants over the centuries: ecclesiastical dignitaries, counts, lords... up until the modern times of the 19th century. The village has kept all its authenticity, its steep sloping streets, its fountains and washhouses, its old church - or upper church, a mix of Romanesque and Gothic

As Provence Specialists, please note that we also conduct private tours, shore excursions, wine tasting tours departing from Toulon. Other important destinations to discover provence include the town of Aix en Provence, the Pont du Gard, the village of Les Baux de Provence, Chateauneuf du Pape for the wines, Van Gogh tours, the lavender fields, l'Isle sur la Sorgue River and village and so much more. For more information please contact our reservations team.

Provence Wine Tasting

On this Shore excursion from Marseille Port of Call, it is also possible to include a wine tasting session of Provence Wines. During the booking process, it will be possible for you to choose the number of villages in the Luberon that you would like to include. If you would like to include a wine tasting session, please only select the visit of 2 villages so that we have time to include the winery visit.

Then board your premium A/C vehicle and begin to make your way to the Provence Vineyards located around Cassis & Bandol. After a short drive composed of breathtaking panoramic views, your minivan tour will arrive near the typical fishing port of Cassis. The village is well known for its calanques national park, beaches, and beautiful port overlooked by a medieval chateau.

Reach the Cassis Wine Producing region

Established as an Protected Appellation (AOP) in 1936, Cassis was one of the first in the region to obtain this qualification for the wines produced. The village is one of the few local appellations of the south of France composed of a single, tiny commune.

While most nearby appellations were originally cultivated by Greek outposts, Cassis is of Ligurian origins. The village of Cassis is Blessed by 3,000 hours of annual sunshine. The cool maritime winds make it truly a spot set aside for gorgeous wines.

Taste local Cassis Wines

Cassis is the only region in Provence to produce a majority of white wine, regulated to contain at least 80% Marsanne.

After your wine tasting, discover the cute small fishing port of Cassis and its calanques listed by Unesco as a world heritage national park. The land & sea area is known for its white cliffs and turquoise water.

Free time for lunch (at own expense) & personal discovery

Enjoy a picture stop at the highest sea cliff in Europe that is named Cape Canaille where you will enjoy a stunning view over the bay. Enjoy some free time for lunch, personal discovery, relax on the beach or if time permits, board a motor boat for a 45-minute cruise (tickets not included) to admire the natural beauty of the local creeks (Calanques).

Arrive in Bandol and taste more wines

After your exploration of Cassis, your shore trip will continue heading to Bandol. It is a popular coastal town and wine growing region in the western part of the Cote d'Azur. Your visit to Bandol will start by a local wine tasting.

The Bandol vineyard lies in a natural amphitheatre where the vines are planted on terraces over approximately 1,600 hectares. Sheltered by the massif of Sainte Baume to the North culminating at 1,147 metres, the Bandol vineyard descends in terraces towards the sea in a magnificent amphitheatre of wooded hills.

Bold red wines

The expression of the terroir comes together in the range of wines produced in the area: red wines, white wines and rosé wines. Bandol is a resolutely red wine, mainly produced from the Mourvèdre variety, known as the king of the appellation. Mourvèdre is the chief grape variety in the blend (50% to 95%). It is harmoniously combined with Grenache and Cinsault, the former bringing generosity to the wine, the latter giving it refinement.

Elegant white wines of Bandol

To penetrate the secret of Bandol, one must also taste its white wines. The wine-growers take delight in surprising wine lovers with this type of wine, produced in very low quantities. Clairette, Ugni Blanc and Bourboulenc are the base of the varietal mix.

Gourmand rosé wines

Bandol rosés are enchanting. Their roundness and generosity make them different from other rosé wines. Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault combine to give, by direct pressing, a well-structured, refined, pale-coloured wine with delicate salmon hues.

Visit the village of Bandol

Then, enjoy some free time for a walk around the harbour with some lovely pastel painted houses. The centre of the traditional village of Bandol is around a square called the Place de l'Europe immediately behind the promenade. This square is actually a series of three squares separated by raised terraces where a large fountain, shady plane trees and lively cafes combine with the view across the harbour to make a very attractive traditional Provencal square.

At the top of the square is one of the most important historic monuments in Bandol, the Church Saint-Francois de Sales. The streets around the square are also interesting to explore with a surprise around every corner for example an ancient fountain, a tiny ancient house and flower boxes or a grand Belle Epoque villa.

This private guided tour will give you an opportunity to taste the local wines and visit 2 domains. You will also have some free time in both villages of Cassis & Bandol. Your private guide will point out the main attractions that can be found in the villages. After your tour, we will drive back to your cruise ship.

A bit of History about Monaco

Historically, Monaco was part of France, but in 1215, it became a colony of Genoa (Italy) through a land grant from Emperor Henry VI. The Grimaldi family settled in Monaco in 1297 and ancestors of the family have controlled the principality for over 715 years now.

In 1419, the Grimaldi family acquired Monaco from the French ruling family of Aragon. Monaco has since been under Spanish, Italian and Sardinian protection. In 1793, French revolutionary troops captured Monaco, keeping it until 1814, when the Grimaldi family returned to power. Today, Monaco is governed by a constitutional monarchy, but is a protectorate of France.

In 1949, Prince Rainier III ascended to the throne of Monaco and married the beautiful American actress, Grace Kelly in 1956. Prince Rainier III played an important role in bringing economic prosperity to the area and his wife played a large part in promoting the arts and bringing glamour to the small nation. Together, they had three children, Caroline, Albert and Stephanie.

Here, you will discover the Cannes film festival Palace and conference center where the red carpet unrolls for celebrities. The town is without a doubt one of the most glamorous of the Côte d'Azur with Monaco and Monte Carlo.

Visit Grasse, the French Capital of Perfumes

To the North of Cannes, we will start to climb on the lower slopes of a high limestone plateau to reach Grasse, a charming small town that has been associated with perfumery since the 16th century. Today, the town is still home to more than 30 makers and of course you will have the opportunity to visit one of the most famous perfume factories of the region.

The view from the town over the sea is stunning and can be considered as one of the highlights of your day trip. Many coin this view as being the balcony of the French Riviera. The town is also home to a number of private mansions that date back to 17th and 18th centuries. The many ochre façades of the buildings give Grasse a very Italian feel to the charming location.

Visit the hilltop village of Gourdon

Then continue your full day tour to the village of Gourdon, nicknamed the Eagle's Nest, that sits on the edge of a Rocky Spur above the River Loup. The village is dotted with tiny shops but is also home to one of the most famous Candy making Factories named Florian.

The village is also home to a 12th century Chateau that was erected on top of a Saracen fotress. After some time in the village, we will drive along the Loup River through the countryside to discover some places that are a heaven of quietness.

Reach the village of Saint Paul de Vence

After the village of Gourdon, it will be time to make our way to medieval Saint Paul de Vence, sheltered behind its ramparts and filled with art galleries, boutiques and sidewalk cafes. The village of St-Paul dates back to the 11th century and traces of its history still remain much to the delight of its visitors.

It is a village well known for its artistic heritage, the beautiful landscapes surrounding St Paul de vence having inspired many an artist and an enclave of art galleries and museums can be found around the quaint cobbled streets.

Here, you will have the opportunity to visit the Maeght Foundation. It is Saint Paul's most renowned Art museum. It features works from famous artists that settled at some point in the Côte d'Azur region. Braque, Kandinsky, Chagall or Miro are just a few of them.

Return to your cruise ship after the visit and this will be the end of our services.

Here you will discover the marina and stroll through the small streets of this picturesque fishermen village, a well known resort that attracts jet setters from all over the world. Begin your Saint Tropez shore excursion with a short driver to the village of Gassin.

Reach the village of Gassin

Gassin is a lovely village perched high on inhospitable rocky land above the Mediterranean Sea. The village is classified among the "most beautiful villages of France". When you arrive in Gassin you can start your visit at the orientation table near the highest parking area. From here you have a magnificent view of the Bay of Saint-Tropez and the surrounding hills: you can see a great deal of coastline including the resorts of La Croix Valmer, Saint-Tropez, Grimaud.

The village of Gassin is closely linked to the village of Ramatuelle: the villages were both originally created to allow the locals to escape the pirates who were numerous in the Mediterranean waters and will usually be visited as part of the same tour of the region.

Then visit the village of Ramatuelle

Your day trip then moves on to the village of Ramatuelle. This attractive perched village is set high above the Mediterranean sea of the Saint-Tropez peninsula. The village was originally founded here to escape the pirates who terrorised the villages along the Mediterranean coastline. It takes its name from 10th century Saracen rule Rahmatu'llah that means 'Divine Gift'. If wine tasting is your thing, then it is possible for us to organise a wine tour on this shore excursion from your cruise port in Saint Tropez.

After the visit of Ramatuelle, it will be time for us to make our way back and that will be the end of your St Tropez shore excursion.

Depart from Saint Tropez and reach the Côtes de Provence wine region

Saint Tropez is certainly one of the most famous villages of France. Fashion boutiques, high end Cafés and terraces, luxury yachts for all to contemplate are just but a few features that make this area so unique. Here you will discover the marina and stroll through the small streets of this picturesque fishermen village, a well known resort that attracts jet setters from all over the world. After a short drive, it will be time to reach your first Cru Classé Winery.

The Cru Classé Wines of Provence

In the heart of the Provence wine region, a few wineries obtained the status of Cru Classé (Classified Growth) in 1977 with 4 criterias to be met: direct selling of the wines, wine to be bottled at the property, to market the wines only 18 months after the vinification and the use of a name present before 1935.

Originally, 23 out of 300 properties comprised the Cru Classé and today only 18 wineries are still present in this Classification the 5 others having disappeared with time. No modification of the Classification is programmed which means that no winery can be added for the moment.

Tasting at a Cru Classé Winery

Our first stop will be in a Cru Classé winery of Côtes de Provence. Located at an altitude of 190 meters (625 feet) at the foothill of Notre Dame des Anges, the vineyard benefits from both the Mistral wind and the shade of the mountain range. The soil here is composed of a mix of clay and schist (shale) with certain areas made up of sand and others made up of rock.

Nine grape varieties are used to blend the wines including Syrah (Shiraz), Grenache, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon to name the most known. The range of wines include reds, whites and rosés and you will have the opportunity to taste these local wines during a commented tasting session.

Visit & Wine tasting in a second Cru Classé Winery

After your first stop, time to move along to the next winery that is on your program for this day trip in the Provence wine region. This winery covers 300 hectares (740 acres) among which a large amount are part of the Cru Classé vineyards. The soil of the property is composed of clay and limestone and the vineyard is exposed to the sea breeze and enjoys ideal conditions for growing top quality wines.

The wines produced on the estate include 85% of Rosé, 10% of Red Wine and 5% of White. All the wines are made with the grapes harvested from the estate. Enjoy the stunning setting as you discover the estate and family’s history while visiting the cellars and gardens. Then enjoy a tasting during which you will learn about the various steps to tasting a wine.

Lunch in a local restaurant

The Provence region of France is known for its culinary delights. After your second winery visit, it will be time to enjoy lunch in a local restaurant. You can either plan this directly with your guide and ask for recommendations in the morning of your tour, or it is possible for us to arrange a pre-booked lunch reservation in a carefully selected restaurant of the region.

End the day in style with a final Provence Wine Tasting Experience

Arrive at your last winery visit of the day that is also a Cru Classé Provence wine estate. Located just a few kilometers from Saint Tropez, the vineyard is ideally situated to the west of the plain that links the foothills of the Maure Mountain Range to the Mediterranean Sea.

The winery produces remarkable Rosé wines with some of the highest vine stocks of the Côte de Provence appellation that are located at an altitude of around 450 meters (1500 feet). Here, follow a guided tour of the property and learn how the wine is made. Then, participate in a commented wine tasting session of 4 Cru Classé Wines paired with Cheese & cold meats.

If you think that 3 visits & tastings is too much on this full day tour, then is is possible to replace the last visit with the visit of Port Grimaud, a 50 year-old Marina that was designed by a visionary architect from the Alsace region who dreamt up this modern day, lakeside city. Here, it is possible to follow a walking tour or a small boat tour.

After the visit, it will be time for us to make our way back to your Cruise Ship in Saint Tropez. Upon arrival this will be the end of your St Tropez Shore Excursion and the end of our services.
