Follow a certified tour guide in the Grande Ile, a Unesco World Heritage site, around the old pedestrian areas, the Cathedral and the Petite France neighborhood. The tour includes major landmarks such as Maison Kammerzell, Gutenberg square, St. Thomas church, the former tanners’ houses, the Covered Bridge and many more. Pick up by your guide at your centrally located Hotel For this private walking tour of the beautiful city of Strasbourg, your guide will come and pick you up at your hotel or accommodation in central Strasbourg. If you are not based in Strasbourg and are coming from outside, we will suggest a convenient meeting point where to meet your guide. The Cathedral Begin your private 2-hour walk in Strasbourg. The old city centers around its Gothic cathedral, Our Lady of Strasbourg, built of red sandstone and described by Victor Hugo as a “gigantic and delicate marvel”! Follow your expert guide for the Cathedral* visit including the marvelous façade that provides one of the finest picture books of the Middle Ages that you will ever see. The hundreds of sculptures which almost seem to leap out at you from the wall make great use of light and shadow effects. Another major attraction that your guide will comment on are the stained-glass windows dating from the 12th and 14th centuries and that form a particularly enchanting sight along with the rose window. Finally, the highlight of the visit to the Cathedral of Notre Dame is the amazing Renaissance astronomical clock. Built in 1843 it features an orrery, a rotating display of the sun and moon, a planetary calendar, and even a mechanical rooster. Each day at around 12:30, the bird crows and a conga line of apostles issues forth from the clockworks, led by a little Christ. * Please note that the audio headset rental that is compulsory to visit the Cathedral is included in the price. The Old Town & La Petite France district After the visit of the Cathedral, reach the Petite France district. Historically, this was the poor section of the city occupied by mills and tanneries, both of which depended on the river and its downward flowing branches to support their work. Today, the neighborhood is one of the most charming of Strasbourg with its colorful 16th and 17th century half-timbered houses such as the ‘Maison des Tanneurs’ that your guide will certainly point out. Your private guided tour in this charming area will lead you to our final stop: a series of fortified bridges and their three towers. This succession of three bridges linking arms with the Ill River is dominated by three 14th century towers, remains of the ancient medieval ramparts, which totalized 90 towers. The bridges themselves were once capped by a wooden roof. Of course Strasbourg offers so much more including the visit of the German district, the visit of the European Parliament or the different Museums located in the Palais Rohan. Since this is a private tour don't hesitate to reach out to our team of travel advisors if there is a highlight of Strasbourg that you would like to include on this tour. After your tour, why not join one of our half day or full day trips from Strasbourg to the most important landmarks of Alsace along the wine route?

Or Visit Some of the Most Authentic Alsace Villages This small group half-day trip to authentic Alsace villages and small towns departs from Strasbourg and heads towards the Northern Alsace Wine Route. As you drive along this scenic Route, you will reach some of the most beautiful villages located in the area that are surrounded by vineyards. One of your first stops will certainly be the village of Barr. This superb Alsace village that has retained parts of its medieval walls, was located on the salt route. Unknown from many tourists, it is one of our preferred destinations. Since it is located off the beaten tracks, the limited number of visitors make it a real treat if you want to get the real feel of Alsace. Its well preserved historical city center is dotted with a great number of traditional flower decked half timbered houses located along the twisted cobbled streets. Other great options that your guide can include are the villages of Mittelbergheim – with its Rue Principale, Gothic Churches and geranium covered walls or Andlau and its famous abbey that dates back to the 9th century. Or Why Not Combine The Two Options This tour enables you to mix and match according to your preferences. Your guide will be happy to adapt the tour to your wishes and suggest the best possible options depending on your choices. We highly recommend that you send us a note suggesting what your preferences would be, but a small chat with your guide before the departure of the tour will be the best way for you to really indicate what you would like to do during this private half day tour of Alsace region from Strasbourg. After the tour, return to Strasbourg. We suggest that you take a look at our full day tour Pearls of Alsace that will take you to Haut Koenigsbourg castle, Colmar and Eguisheim. Here, taste fabulous Rieslings that originate from the Kirchberg (marl and limestone), Wiebelsberg (sandy sandstone) and Moenchberg (marls, limestone and slate) Grands Crus. The hallmark of Alsace Grand Crus wines is their minerality. Some of the most famous wine makers that produce these Grands Crus include Kreydenweiss, Stoeffler or Albert Seltz. We will stop in one of the local wineries for a wine tasting session of the local Grands Crus. Visit the Fantastic Grand Cru: Frankstein Then, move on to discover a most unique and confidential Grand Cru: Frankstein (literally ‘the stone of the French’). Divided into several sectors of the charming little town of Dambach la Ville, this Grand Cru is characterized by a complex geological substratum, combining granite on its upper parts with shelly limestone, with sandstone lower down. Depending on availability, it will also be the moment to discover biodynamic winemaking (a form of alternative agriculture very similar to organic farming, but which includes various esoteric concepts) in wineries such as Domaine Schaeffer Woerly or Beck-Hartweg. Try the Unique Muscats of Alsace & Taste the Local Gewurztraminer Finally reach the southern part of the Alsace wine route near Ribeauvillé and discover emblematic Grands Crus such as Altenberg, Kanzlerberg, Osterbrg. It is in this part of the wine region that you will discover local Muscat. Alsace Muscat is distinguished from the sweet Muscats of the South of France by its dry character. Extremely aromatic, it expresses wonderful flavors of fresh fruit. We will also have you taste some exceptional Gewürztraminers that originate from local Grand Crus. These are full-bodied wine, with solid structure and a round fullness. In tasting these wines, one rediscovers the complete aromatic palette, often with the addition of licorice. Harvested very ripe, “late harvest” and “Selection de Grains Nobles” Gewurztraminer ranging from sweet to viscous, possess exceptional richness and extraordinary aromatic complexity. Return to Strasbourg after the final tasting.

Baden Baden, a spa town, is located on the western foothills of the Black Forest, on the banks of the Oos River, in the region of Karlsruhe. During the 19th century, the town rose to become a meeting place for celebrities attracted by the hot springs, as well the luxury hotels, the horse races and the gardens of the Lichtentaler Allee. The Black Forest & the Schwartzwald Hochstrasse The Black Forest is a wooded mountain range bordered by the Rhine valley to the west and south. The highest peak is the Feldberg with an elevation of 1,493 meters (4,898 feet). The name Black Forest comes from the general dark color of the numerous pine trees that grow in this region. Black Forest gateau and cuckoo clocks originate from this region. The Black Forest Route (Schwartzwald Hochstrasse) is the oldest, and one of the best known, themed drives in Germany. A long time ago this road was used to transport logs. Today, it is one of the most popular routes for tourists because of the beauty of its scenery, landscape, traditional villages and the breathtaking views of the mountains. The Badische Winestrasse The Baden wine route stretches for 160 kilometers along the western edge of the Black Forest, from Baden-Baden in the north to Weil am Rhein in the south, and in an additional loop around the areas of Kaiserstuhl and Tuniberg. The vineyard covers 15,500 hectares making it the 3rd largest in Germany. In Baden, red and white wines of great repute flourish. The Blaue Spätburgunder dominates in the category of red wines, while in the category of white wines it is the Müller-Thurgau. With regard to the other varieties, each winegrower typically specializes in the regional wine: the Riesling is mostly at home in Ortenau, the Markgräflerland is the land of Gutedel and Burgunder-wines like the Ruländer (Pinot gris) and Weißburgunder (Pinot blanc) are mainly cultivated in Breisgau, Kaiserstuhl or Tuniberg. After the tour, return to Strasbourg.
